Consero in Buckinghamshire

With a third of it in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of Buckinghamshire’s main claims to fame is its lush countryside, which is dotted with ancient beechwoods and hilly farmland. It’s an open-air lover’s delight and includes treats such as The Ridgeway National Trail, Wendover Woods, the Ashridge Estate and the Goring and Thames Path walk.

Villages around the Chilterns are very sought after: the Chalfonts, Great Missenden and Hambledon for instance, command high prices. Commuters choose affluent towns such as Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and Amersham, as typical travel times into London Marylebone are less than half an hour.

Grand historic houses abound in Bucks: there’s Cliveden, Waddesdon Manor, Claydon House, West Wycombe Park, Hughenden Manor and the Prime Minister’s country retreat, Chequers. Bletchley Park, the Roald Dahl Museum and the Chiltern Open Air Museum all give their own unique slant on local history.
