Surrey is regarded as the ultimate commuter county, but it offers a wonderful quality life too. Surrey has more woodland than any other county, and its own Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Surrey Hills, which covers a quarter of the total area. One of the most famous spots here is Box Hill, combining amazing views and a rich profusion of wildlife.
The county also has rolling chalk downs, grassland, heaths and commons. Walking or cycling the Downs Link is one way to explore some of it.
In Surrey, glorious parks and gardens are often attached to historic estates: Polesden Lacy, Claremont Landscape Garden, and the grandest of all, Hampton Court Palace and Park.
Sports fans have plenty of choices: racing at Epsom, Lingfield, Kempton Park and Sandown Park, motorsport history at Brooklands, and golf courses including internationally renowned Wentworth Club.
Guildford, Farnham and Woking provide variety in shopping and entertainment, combined with easy access to the countryside and market towns and villages that offer excellent opportunities for excursions. Some of the prettiest are Mickleham, Ripley, Oxshott, Shere, Brockham, and Abinger Hammer.
